Suggestions future releases
But I see the shifting happening at the companies that I visit or working for. The current starting generation ( youngsters Smile ) are equal used to Linux as to Windows but they grab Linux as their favorite. I think this is due to the fact that the universities and schools have now a days teachers and professors totally used to Linux that this OS is more and more used at the practicum labs. If you need an OS on a small system or big system, Linux is up and running in a couple of minutes without any costs, important for schools. The older generations would love to keep using Windows because they joined the whole journey from Dos, win 3.0 to win3,1 enhanced, win98, NT, XP and 7 but newer generations doesn't have this burden.

I think that Microsoft has the disadvantage of being the first and that they need to change strategy to survive, otherwise they are overtaken by tablets with other OSes like Linux (Android).

Look at Intel, first you are the leader with Z80, 8051 etc, and a decade further they are missing the IoT and Mobile market.

Feature Request:

Would be great if EmBlitz can save the project on build.. or at least have this as default on, with the option to switch off in the menus somewhere. No idea why you'd not want this though. This is the default behaviour in Visual Studio.

I get crashes with EmBlitz from time to time and its always frustrating if you've been working for a while, or even come back after leaving a project open, get a crash and then have to re-add files and redo configuration. Even if you have built your project and been debugging in between.

Yes, that's an obvious one. But if you think how to implement this then it's a little bit harder. Local watches are not accessible in GDB if they out-of-scope. So all those variables are already not live watchable. What's left are the global ones.

Remember that EmBlocks is not parsing the memory itself but everything is going through GDB (who knows the variable type). Perhaps there is a GDB notation to access local static variables even out-of-scope but I don't know it.

So I have chosen to support this not in the watch window but with the mouse pointer tooltip in the editor. If you point a global variable while the target is running then the tooltip with the current value (even structures) is popping-up. Keep the mouse still so that the tipwindow is not closed and you will have 1 sec live update of that variable.

I have placed the Data breakpoints on the list. It's already in  a part of the UI (not in the memory window) and I have to check how ARM is doing this. The right syntax from EmBlocks to GDB is already done but it's not working yet.

I was browsing through this thread and came across this rather old post about live variables.  This feature has currently very limited use for our team because our code has really few global variables. Actually we try to avoid them.  Instead we use static variables, which the live variable feature does not support.

I don't know anything about how the debugging works and may have this all wrong, but the GDB manual does state that printing static variables with the file::variable or function::variable notation is supported.  Any chances that this could actually be done?

Hi,
First thanks for this great IDE. It become my primary IDE for STM32 platform.
One minor suggestion: When adding files to the project, please make it possible to add them directly to a virtual directory.
This is very useful, especially when migrating project from other IDE.

I did not follow the entire thread on OS platform part.

But now it is quite easy to code for the three major platform using an IDE like Qt... and there is complete libraries today that are available in all those OS flavor...

I can say one thing... practically only EmBitz is preventing me to ditch Windows...
Windows start its upgrade, with disregard for my work... and close thing so i lose work.. even if a set time frame to do so.....

Great work!..

I like the Idea about EB-link

In the past, I was using a probe from Renesas called RTA_FoUSB_MON.  they had the script approach to add new processor...
After that they move to new probe E7 then E8.. those 2 probe where a disaster
the Fo_USB was fast...

it is nice to see someone like you, going in the right direction with the idea of script for new processor..!!!

If just one application hold you on Windows, there is something went wrong.

It seems you are unable to configure your Windows right. A windows systems never force a restarts without any message and a required confirmation.
Optional updates or upgrades requires a restart and this all will show you a message about this issue. You must enable them to install and at this time, the updates show you the requirements of them. It's not an windows issue that you are ignore that.
In addition - Installing updates or patches while a system is in use, is not a recommended practice on every operating systems i know.

I develop firmware since around 20Years and use a bunch Unix and Windows systems. None of them are ever dumped my work.
It's seem your issue is more a handling related as one of the uses OS.
